I found another article right at the bottom of my table. I hope neither of u got bored by these articles. Next blog i post will be something from the net. Anyway the caption for this article was " Global warming causes soil to release carbon." It was published on September 10 2005.
Well a study was done by Nature. It looked at the carbon content of soil in England and Wales from 1978-2003 and found there was a steady decline with some 13 million tonnes of carbon released from British soil each year. It also concluded that no matter how the soil was used, acrbon appeared to br released from the soil.Hence the research then concluded that the main cause must be climate change.
They (researchers) could not say where the missing carbon had gone, much of it entering the atmosphere as greenhouse gases which are mainly carbon dioxide and methane. Scientists also said that carbon dioxide and methane are the main cause of global warming.

Previous articles 6

This will be the last article which i kept inside my table. It is article 6 which was published on August 13 2005. Its headline "Pollution exposure linked to childhood cancer."This article mainly talks about how air pollution causes medical complications such as leukemia, cancer and so on.
Its says that exposure soon after birth or even before birth particularly due to engine exhausts. This is strongly linked with leukemia and cancer.
Yesterday I was browsing through some sites and it just stunned me that because of pollution there are so many serious medical complications such as upper and lower tract disorder, infertility, and so much more. It is just endless. Although i will discuss those later. Let me come back to this article.
An excess risk of childhood cancer were noted where regions around the world has variation in levels of chemicals such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, 1,3-butadience. These chemicals are largely produced by engine exhausts. They also gave an example where exposure to near a bus station and 1,3 butadiene raised the risk of cancer by 12.6 fold.
To me 12.6 times the exposure is extremely high. This study was done by Dr. E.G. know from the University of Birmingham. These reports were also published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health.
Those of u who wish to know where i got these information please visit www.dailystar.net
It should be in the archives.

Previous articles 5

Article 5 was printed on September 10 2003.Its headline " Fresh eviction drive soon on Buriganga." Yeah the picture shows the famous Buriganga. Although this is the well known Buriganga it is not wat is seems. As you can see by the picture above the river is encroached by the ships and structures which r built along the bank of the river.
Owing to these reasons, the Buriganga is getting polluted, destroying all aquatic lifeforms. However this articles states how the government is trying to end of all of these obstacles on the river and prevent pollution.
The government wont be able to move tanneries situated on the bank of the river until and unless these factories r relocated somewhere else. The funny thing abt this article is that it tells how they (government) is reducing garbage(pollution) while a government agency supplying water to all the citizens r dumping millions of gallons of untreated sewage into this river everyday.
Why the hell isn't the sewage treated? They think they can just keep on pouring all these stuff on the river and there will be not side effect. All these nutters.

Previous articles 4

Article number 4 was printed on August 27 2003. It's caption "Wasting city wetlands."

By the picture you can see how dirty this lake looks like. The reason for these are industrial waste, sewage, encroachment of lands. People who live on these waters are mostly fishermen and many of these people are getting ill due to the contamination in the water.

Our home, Earth is surrounded by 3/4 of water and 1/4 of land mass. We are lucky that the water percentage is high because the way we humans have been polluting these lakes, rivers, seas, oceans from the age of civilization, we still get water to drink. REALLY LUCKY!!!

One day might come when there is so much nuclear or toxic waste in the water bodies that we will instantly get fish out radioactive hilsa fish but we wont be able to eat it.

Another article which I found was printed on 22 October 2003. Its headline "Policing bad vehicles". This article also tells us how the government is trying to reduce air pollution. The article printed is huge and i have very little time to write this blog so i will make it concise.

It states that the Department of Enviornment(DoE) was planning to set up outposts to monitor emissions released from vehicles roaming the streets of Dhaka. The objective of this plan was to keep surveillance of vehicles releasing toxic fumes. At first, these outposts would stop gross polluters from giving out fumes by prescribing specific formats to keep the engine running properly. If these cars were caught again they will be fined.

The police in the picture is looking for bad engines. So far the idea seems quite good however i do not know whether such a scheme was implemented. Anything to keep nature in good harmony.

While cleaning my table i found some articles relating to pollution( I normally collect articles from newspapers that i find interesting and keep it inside my table). These articles explained how the bangladesh government is trying to reduce pollution. Like for instance the article i am going to write now was printed on 24th September 2003. In the article it states that brick kilns (like the picture on the right) can reduce pollution by making the chimneys taller. The reason for this is because there will be an increase in the combustion of coal and dispersion of smoke produced will be greater.
Although the cost of making these klins taller were expensive
the owners of the klins were forced to compile with the laws. In fact one of the owner stated that even though the process was costlier it would save about 25% of energy. To me 25% of energy saved is a lot.
