Maldives broke – Stance against climate change weakens

Maldives is the first country to face the affects of climate change quite literally with the country sinking under water every year.  When ever there is a global summit about climate change, you would always notice a Maldives representative to be there. However this time, its different.

With the Copenhagen summit nearby, Maldives president will be unable to attend the summit as the country is broke. The country’s population is already termed as climate refugees, as most of them are forced to evacuate the island.

Latest update- Denmark will finance the trip of Maldives representatives.

Over 100M in South- East Asia to be affected

A climate meet in Indonesia suggests that with climate change and global warming beyond the doorsteps, it will affect over 100 million people in South-East Asia. It will directly affect the coastal regions of SE Asia as they are more dependent on this regions, leading them to poverty and with the consequences of raising water levels they will become homeless. Read the full story here.

Oceans need to be protected

A climate meet is being held at Indonesia where some of the world's climate problems are been discussed. It is urged that the world's oceans be protected as it will not only damage the marine ecosystem but could also relocate all the coastal communities depending on the oceans to provide for their needs. It is also not to this but with the rising water levels, warming of the waters and the increasing acidity levels of the global waters, pose a great risk not only for us but for our future generations to come. Dubai:One of the highest carbon emissions per capita

As development and expansion of this wealthy nation continues to rise with high-rises, islands build off the coast, hotels, Dubai a emirate nation of UAE( United Arab Emirates) has one of the highest carbon footprint per capita. Recently with the explosion of population in the emirate state, waste management has become an issue which affects marine ecosystem around the area. UAE has ratified their position in the Kyoto Protocol in 2005 however according to their status in the Protocol they do not require to reduce their carbon emissions.

As a result, the use of renewable energy or sustainable energy in the region has not become a concern yet. Although with countries researching and using sustainable energies, I think they too should start implementing such schemes and allowing foreign investments relating to green projects. Bahrain has started projects by installing wind turbines to its World Trade Center, the first of its kind. To read about the Bahrain World Trade Center find it here. To read more about the Dubai's carbon footprint click here.

Asia play big role in global warming

Although some of you consider it an old news but I have been busy for some time so I could not post the news on time but its kind of important.

There has been speculation that Asia is playing a great role in global warming. The air pollution created by countries such as China, India, Bangladesh, and other Asian countries are transferred to the other side of the hemisphere. How is that possible?
The polluted air are passed over the Pacific Ocean via air currents. So all the air pollution is been shifted all around the world. In that case the pollution created by the USA can come to China or vice versa.

At the present moment Africa is facing major problems and signs of global warming is remarkable present. The current drought situation, increase in temperatures are signs of global warming. Even in Bangladesh the weather is different and there are variations in weather patterns.

Japan plans to bury carbon dioxide

Japan has a huge capacity of ideas and their new idea is to bury carbon dioxide. The purpose pf this plan is to slash greenhouse gas emmissions. Mainly the carbon dioxide will be pumped into underground storage reservoirs instead of realeasing them into the atmosphere. The propsal will aim to bury 200 million tons of CO2 a year by 2020. Although the process is expensive. It will cost $52 per ton and collecting the gas will be diificult because first the gas much be liquefied, then filtered, and then again converted to the gas form. Its disadvantage, the storage tanks if it ever leaks or explodes with release tons of CO2 in an instant to the atmosphere.

Glaciers are melting fastest in 5000 years

Firstly I want to say is that this month, I received more than 400 visitors and counting. So thank you all of you out there I really appreciate it. I also want to apologize because i put the video section however i cud not provide any links to my videos. My connection is nothing great but i will try my level best to upload the videos and provide a link.

Now back to the current problem.

Mountain glaciers are melting faster now than at any time in the past 5000 years. Sample of ice cores taken from mountians as far apart from the Andes in South America to the Himalayas in Asia. The cores revealed the extent of climate change and how must of the world's glacier's retreated .

Scientists have warned that human activities has nudged the global climate over the past 100 years. Why? Well the on going melting not only is going to effect the rise in water-level but also the supply of fresh drinking waterin many of the world's populated areas.

A recent study indicates that air pollution is affecting the people of Hong Kong. It has become a major threat for the country as it is not only affecting the health of the people but of course the economy of Hong Kong. India's atmosphere polluted

Indians are breathing cancer-causing air according to recent reports. The air contains chemicals and toxic gases which at the present level is extremely dangerous. India is one of most polluted countries in the world. The country does not have any standard for the control of harmful chemicals and gases released in the atmosphere.

The study which was done in many India cities and villages indicate that the people are exposed to 45 dangerous chemicals including 13 carcinogens some levels which are 32,000 times higher than world standards. The chemicals found in the air virtually attacks most of the body system including eyes, nervous system, reproductive system. Although to reduce pollution the Indian government is planning a shift to compressed natural gas which could reduce pollution. However the government has no plans to cut down greenhouse gases which according to the Kyoto Protocol. Luckily considering them to be a developing nation there are exempted from the Protocol.

China's Yangtze is in peril

One of the biggest river in the world and the largest in China, the Yangtze river is in serious peril. The river was told is was too big for pollution to occur due to its sheer capacity of 900 billions of water. However the incident which took few months back ago have showed signs of pollution. It was said the river was too big to poison although that assumption was wrong. Hydrologists are saying that the water is cancerous and could cause a major imbalance in marine life and enviornment. The 3,964 mile long river supports some 400 million people which means one in every 15 people in the planet.

Toxic trash spread in Savar

Some 300 industries around a 20 sq km near the Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) in Savar are dumping toxic chemicals. To see the image http://www.thedailystar.net/2006/05/20/d6052001044p.htm . Its horrendous.

These toxic chemicals are running in farming lands where vital crops are being destroyed also causing environmental imbalance. The reason for this is because of lack of sewage and draining facilities. Not only that there are no recycling plant built-in with the industries to treat these toxic wastes.
